Springfield International Folk Dancers

December 20, 2021

The Springfield International Folk Dancers (SIFD) believes that folk dancing is for everyone.  We celebrate world cultures and strive to preserve each culture's unique dance heritage, and share this with our local community.

Visitors are always welcome!  SIFD holds regular rehearsals Monday nights, 7-9 PM, at the Hoogland Center for the Arts, 420 S 6th St, Springfield, Illinois.  Visitors can dance, observe and ask questions.  Previous dance experience is not necessary to join the fun!  Members from all nationalities and cultural groups are welcome.

About Us

The SIFD is a nonprofit organization that promotes appreciation of world cultures through learning and performing folk dances from around the world.  We are known for our authentic costumes and attention to historical accuracy with our dancing.

The group's mission is to increase understanding of cultural traditions through folk dancing.  We serve Sangamon County and surrounding areas, including community festivals, the State Fair, museums, school and church events, and nursing homes.

SIFD has been an active part of Springfield's artistic community since the group was founded in 1975.  SIFD continues to expand its dance repertoire from a variety of areas, including, but not limited to, German, Israeli, Scottish, English Regency, Baltic,  and of course the Civil War era.
